simple things ...

sometimes it is the simplest of things that bring the greatest joy. The biggest pain in my bottom, when it comes to sewing, is juggling bobbins. Either they are full with the wrong colour thread or they empty out right in the middle of a tricky seam, so that I have to break off to wind the bobbin. I know life is soooo hard!

Well, I finally invested in 20 new bobbins and these little plastic things have made me so happy. I guess I'm just a simple creature really.

And just look at all that lint and fluff. No wonder my poor little machine has been playing up. I had thought that it should perhaps go for a service, which I like to think of a little spa break for a very deserving hard worker. But the mud pack and sauna shall be put on hold for the moment as the dusting seems to have done the trick. Hurray for simple solutions.

I did that once - I even bought a little box to organise them in. then I realised the bobbins I had bought were just slightly the wrong size for my machine ... doh!

I bought a packet for mine the other week - it gives me a ridiculous amount of pleasure seeing them all lined up!

Sadly, the plastic universal ones don't fit in my machine, so it's expensive metal and far fewer than 20, but hey ho.

ohh I so relate to that, both the bobbins and the lint. I'm inspired to buy some extra bobbins!

I think one of the best tips I've picked up is to clean your machine regularly - I clean mine at least once a month before my class and fit a new needle. I think it makes such a difference.
I know just what you mean about the bobbins - but if I have too many on the go I just seem to get them in a muddle.

I'm so pleased to hear that other people have that bobbin problem. I definitely don't have enough and am always finding they are loaded with the wrong colours and I have to unwind one to make room for a different colour. Right, I think a walk down to Peter Jones on my lunch break for some new ones might be in order!

I bought a pile of bobbins a while ago and could not believe that I hadn't done it before! So much easier although already I am thinking I perhaps need more....

My machine has never been serviced, it is 10 years old, eeeek! I keep meaning to get it done but something always distracts me, I hope it doesn't revolt on me one day.

I bought some like these for my Mum, who likes to sew clothes & she says they make her feel like a proper dressmaker! It is so useful not to have to keep changing the thread on a bobbin! have fun.

Extra bobbins sure does make life easier, its a bit of a habit for me to make sure I have a new bobbin for any new colours of threads I will be using frequently, unfortunately my machine also has the metal ones ££££££.
And those darn dust bunnies can cause all sorts of problems with how well your machine runs.

I use my Mum's old machine and have never had it serviced or cleaned it (and I've had it 10 years!) so there's another thing for the to do list. I hate it when the bobbin runs out 3 inches from the end of the last seam!

I'm so with you there! Bobbins running out when you've only sewn a few inches (when you think you've sewn lots)drives me bonkers!

Whenever I'm in John Lewis I always buy a case of ten of those plastic bobbins. £2.99 for for an easier life...

How topical - my machine just conked out and I think it definately needs some tlc. Maybe I should just take it apart and give it a clean.

As for buying some more bobbins - why didn't I think of that before? It would be interesting to know how few most people have. I have just 11!

It's nice that you found a simple solution to the problem!! I remember my mum's machine having the little metal ones in a small drawer next to it!!
